Valentine Day: Shady side of naughty Cupid
Valentine Day is round the corner to be celebrated on February 14. Hopefully, the fringe Hindu groups will not act spoil-sport for the young urban crowd since Lok Sabha elections are also about three months away.

Across the world, young people celebrate Valentine Day on February 14 represented by Cupid as a symbol of love.  However, someone has made fun of the celebration saying, "Valentine's Day is when a lot of married men are reminded what a poor shot Cupid really is."

Earlier, on a blog, I wrote that ancient literature informs that Cupid carries two kinds of arrows, one with a sharp golden point, and the other with a blunt tip of lead. A person wounded by the golden arrow is filled with uncontrollable desire, but the one struck by the lead feels aversion and desires only to flee.

Some even believe that Cupid has wounded himself with his own arrow and comes to the world on February 14 to remind people of ordeal of infatuation and blind dates. But no one pays heed and most fall prey to wounds and torture of Cupid.

Here is a sentence acrostic on CUPID that describes him.

C: Chubby child with wings

U: Up on his back shoots people with arrows to fall

P: Prey to uncontrollable erotic desires which

I: In choice are beguiling and

D: Deluding.

Here are my haiku on Cupid.

Cupid is worthless

He's deaf blind and never fair

That's why, he's poor shot.

On Valentine Day,

Filled with lower desires

Cupid visits us.

Shot by own arrow

Cupid enters young sweet hearts

To enjoy himself.
