The British and tourists flock to Stonehenge to mark beginning of summer by watching sunrise
Thousands of visitors and tourists flocked to Stonehenge near Salisbury in the UK, which was also made visible around the world via Skyscape.

Every year, between June 21 and 23 thousands of people from all over the world come to Stonehenge to watch the interplay of the monument with the sun. Some even stay for the night for gazing at stars.

However, this time even the virtual version of sunrise and night sky is being made available for people across the globe through the live feed to watch the beginning of the summer solstice.

Even otherwise, tourists keep on visiting Stonehenge, which is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire of the UK. The monument consists of a ring of standing stones, with each standing stone around 4 metres high, 2.1 m wide and weighing around 25 tons.

Visitors wonder that how the stones were set within earthworks in the middle of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England that has a spread of several hundred burial mounds all around.

Scientific studies reveal that it was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC and now is regarded as a legally protected British cultural icon. Thus, Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage in the land is owned by the National Trust.

Most talked about at Stonehenge the "Heel Stone" or "Sun-Stone" which is located in northeast of the Sarsen Circle and slightly larger and leaning inwards towards the stone circle.
