Are real estate, infrastructural development and smart cities new ways of land colonisation by rich and mighty?
With the kind of glamorous and dream-land type of glorified imagery that is being build around real estate, infrastructural development and smart cities, both by the rulers and the rich investors, one needs to see the seamy side of it which is affecting the a large majority of the deprived and marginalized who are being put to a state of misery and dis-empowerment.

Once again, the word 'colonizer' has gained a respect with the rich and mighty of free country since the industry, corporations, multi-nationals, middle class and law makers have joined hands to colonise the land in the name of 'development' and associated 'slogans'.

The very word 'colonisation' connotes the processes and systemic endorsements to enable some system of power that take over to dominate the land with common peoples leading to dispossession and migration followed by misery and extreme marginalization.

When, I recently visited Hyderabad, in the out skirts of the city new multi-storeyed flats and apartments; posh malls; offices of the multinational companies; car parks, hotels with spas, restaurants and posh private schools are coming up at the land which earlier was possessed by the native dwellers.

Most of the natives have migrated and trying their hands some new occupations since their traditional occupations and their buyers have also been evicted to create space for the new and modern markets centred around the latest, stylish, fashionable and trendy.

Many of the natives and original settlers, whose land has been taken over by the outsiders, are working as security guards, domestic servants, menial workers in malls and other service providers to the colonizers and their clients.

Thus, modern colonization is another name of migration and exploitation of the original land owners or the natives along with exploiting their resources and labour. The whole process is of colonial origin of the past and that of capitalist exploitation. But this time, it is being put as a glamorous dream to make people fall trap to the market economy and mercantilism that is being put forth in the name of sponsored 'development', some think.
